Selby's Sins

Montana's "Selby's Sins" was a hit....in my book!
"Selby's Sins" will capture, and hold, your attention from cover to cover. Montana beautifully embodies the sultry power of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her characterization signifies the epitome of the human spirit. The characters in "Selby's Sins" are real; humorous in one chapter, heart-wrenching in the next. I caught myself gasping out loud in disbelief, feeling sorrow for the family's hardships, and feeling exultant with the absolutely perfect ending. This fantastic book from a brilliant new author deserves to be read in one sitting!

Senator Thomas J. Walsh of Montana: Law and Public Affairs, from Tr to FDR
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Pro Ref) (July, 1999)
Authors: J. Leonard Bates and Richard Lowitt
Average review score:

Real History, Well Done!
The late Len Bates has culminated a life-time of research with this biography of Thomas Walsh, senator from Montana and major political player in the first third of the twentieth century. This work fills a major gap in the account of this period, and speaks most directly to Progressive period and the 1920s, as well as to the surprisingly complex political history of America's Western states. Bates has no particular axe to grin, but confines himself to a measured, factual, but entertaining account that says much about the realities of reform and politics in American society Good history, well done!

A Short Season: Story of a Montana Childhood

I lived A Short Season with my brother, Don, he remembers well
Having grown up on this sheep ranch in Montana, it was achildhood that will always be remember and cherished. My brother madethis even more so with his book, A Short Season. There were so many happy fun times of children, and then there were the times of extreme sadness and sorrow for our family. When my father died our world came to a halt and we had to struggle to gain it back. I think we have done that with the book, it has reunited our family and we have gone back in time and the memories are still so much alive. This book of a Montana childhood will make whom ever reads it go back to their childhood, a feat we seldom do in our modern society, we are so busy and involved in the trials of our own lives we forgot we had a childhood, brothers, sisters and parents who were what we are. Thank you for letting me share this with all of you, Donna M. (nee Morehead) Johnson.

Sixty-six years in Custer's shadow

Sixty-six Years in Custer's Shadow
Henry Weibert is the first writer to use logic and physical evidence when writing about the battle athe Little Big Horn. Weibert lived in the area around the battlefield for sixty-six years and spent a great deal of his free time studying the fight. He points out that Custer never attempted to cross the middle ford to charge the village as every lazy historian claims. There has never been one shred of evidence that indicated Custer ever got within half a mile of the ford. Weibert used his knowledge of the battlefield and the archeological finds of others as well as his own to show Custer's true route to his final destiny. Any reader who wants to read the true history of this battle should read this book!

Spine-tingling account of ghosts in Montana's mining towns
Spirit Tailings recounts tales of hauntings in three of Montana's mining towns. The author, a historical researcher, has done considerable investigation into the background of the hauntings. Not content with legend, she has sought out present-day witnesses wherever possible, and also recounts her own eerie experiences in some of the buildings. Well-written and at times absolutely chilling!

Football Legend
Sports Great,
Joe Montana

The Novel, Sports Great Joe Montana, by Jack Kavanah, is a 64-page book about a professional quarterback, who plays football for the San Francisco 49ers. Joe went to college at the University of Notre Dame. He there played football for the Fightin' Irish.
At the end of the freezing cold Cotton Bowl, in Houston Texas, Joe finished his final football game for the Notre Dame Fightin' Irish in his senior year in 1979.
When Joe's college career came to an end, he was literally sick of the cold weather, so he thought about moving to Southern California, for it's warmth. A year later, Joe was so fed up with the cold he actually did move all the way from South Ben, Indiana, to San Francisco, California.
Joe knew that when he moved to California, he was supposed to be taking a break from sports, but in a matter of days, Joe figured he just couldn't get enough football! That's where the undoubtedle dream of making the team for being drafted for the 49ers began.
When the brand new football season began, Joe went out for the professional game with the San Francisco 49ers.
Joe's NFL season began as a rookie, as every on else's did. The famous Notre Dame quarterback, college boy Joe Montana, also known as the "Comeback Kid," was now the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, in his first season.
In July of 1980, Joe had his first pro game against the Buffalo Bills, in Buffalo, New York. That game the 49ers trampled over the Bills, and just burnt them out!
In the year 1990, it was time for Joe's last game to come... in the Super Bowl! Against the Jets, the 49ers came to their victory, and beat the Jets. There, Joe's season, and first and final "fare well" speech approached everyone watching the spectacular game.
Joe Montana, of the San Francisco 49ers, and Notre Dame Fightin' Irish led them to some of their best seasons and games ever. He retired March of 1991.

Surprise Inheritance (Millionaire, Montana)

Best yet in the series
In economically depressed Jester, Montana, twelve of the local merchants each chip in a dollar every week for the Big Bucks Multi State Lottery. When one of their numbers hit, they win over $1 million each after taxes.
In this third installment in the Millionaire, Montana series, Jennifer Faulkner inherits her grandfather's share of the jackpot. As a child, Jennifer spent summers and holidays with her grandparents but has not been back for ten years. On her first day back in Jester, Jennifer literally runs into the love of her life, Sheriff Luke McNeil. Each believes the other dumped them ten years ago. Can they work out their differences and rekindle their love?
This is the best book in the series so far. The relationship between Jennifer and Luke sizzles. Luke's sister Vicki is a good secondary character who never gives up on trying to reunited her close friend with her brother.

This Side Of Judgment

If you like Bladerunner, you will LOVE this!
I have read this book several times now, and each time it's better than I remember it from before. It is every bit a worthy successor to "Bladerunner" - intensely bittersweet, evocative, masterfully written, a work of art in words. The plot may SEEM familiar but it's full of twists, turns and revelations that there's no comparing it closely to any other story I know of. The characters are BRILLIANTLY done - by the time you're finished reading it, you'll know how they think and what drives them probably better than you know your co-workers. Their motivations, actions, thoughts, histories, hopes and regrets are perfectly believable, and when they hurt or rejoice, you can't help but feel the same right along with them. Buy this book, it is the ULTIMATE "cyberpunk" book and better than anything even William Gibson or Bruce Sterling could write (and I'm fans of both those authors as well.)

Thrashin' time; memories of a Montana boyhood
Published in Unknown Binding by American West Pub. Co. ()
Author: Milton Shatraw

Montana Son
This is a charming and informative memory piece about a young boy growing up in Montana nearly 100 years ago. We meet family, friends, neighbors, Indians and colorful characters of all description. It's well written, fun and funny. Although they didn't think of themselves as pioneers, they really were, building a log house at the edge of the Rockies and ranching through the rigors of Montana's seasons. It's all true and the author had perfect recall. This book could span all age ranges from 10 to 100. We recommend it highly for Americana buffs.
